A fulfilment center is a company that
carries out tasks and orders for clients who hire them. It is called so because they achieve order fulfillment,
wherein they fulfill the order when the products have been delivered. The process is simple enough, but the
features that companies offer differ from one another. These are the most basic fulfillment services that the usual
fulfillment center will offer their clients:
·
Warehousing: this
basically means that they store their inventory for you, and you only need to refill the inventory when they
have run out of them on their site. This is because it is logistically easier for them to deliver your
products because they don’t have to keep going back to you to get your products.
·
Order processing: the
order goes to the company first, but then the company then passes it on to the fulfillment center that they
have hired. The center then fills out the order and delivers it to the buyer. Through the advent of Internet
e-commerce, this has become a lot easier, as invoices are just emailed back and forth these days. It’s even
possible for the owner of the company and the center to never actually meet face to face.
·
Returns and exchanges –
as can be expected when it comes to selling products to customers, there will always be returns and
exchanges. A fulfillment center will be the one that will take care of these requests for you. They
will examine the product and follow the guidelines of your exchange policy accordingly.
Those were only the most basic features
that a fulfillment center may give you. Of course, it will depend on the kind of service that you will need as to
what kind of fulfillment center you will hire. When looking around for a center for you to hire, you must check out
their policies in accordance to these features. There are also a few other things that you must consider, such as
the following:
·
Turnaround time – this is
the amount of time it will take in between the order placement and the actually delivery of the product. Some
companies take longer than hours, although those companies who are very efficient can get the product shipped
within 24 hours.
·
Volume – there are some
companies that can handle large volumes of orders, whereas there are those that specialize in handling
accounts for smaller companies. Consider your volume before hiring a company. You may not need a
multinational company if you are only operating in a local or national level.
·
History and credibility –
many companies have started their very own fulfillment center, so the market is swimming with them
right now. The trick is to find one that has a great track record. Talk to other business owners, preferably
those that have businesses that are the same size as yours, and ask them about the centers that they know of.
Maybe you can even hire the same one that they are hiring, if they come highly recommended.
·
Rates – the biggest
difference between different centers are their rates. There are definitely those that overprice, and there
are also those that give good deals to people who are only small business owners. Look around to find rates
that are best for your business volume.
